I have a male warrior, and i have to say i have never taken off my armour with intention to bruse up an ele girl. but i did take of my armour one time for a (non gay) male warrior dance party.

you know, i really tried to keep off this thread, simply cause, ive been fighting for my "identity" for so long, it just gets tiresome to deal with, if people still do not understand that girls can play games too, then whatever, i know who i am, and words on a screen is not going to effect that, but of course, im glad to see that people here seem to get that lol, so enough of the rant, im off to do my lurking until i go see Jessica Simpson's horrible acting lol

This whole girl gamer thing gets too much attention. So what if girls play games? My little sister plays computer games. My brothers GF plays them. Its a form of entertainment like any other. Can we drop this topic. Its been overdone too many times.

Man, what is it with all the coverage of women in games?

Let me start by saying that I'm a guy, specifically a teenage guy. I play video games. I love video games. I know girls who love video games (one of which I happen to have a crush on

), and it strikes me as odd when people give coverage to female game communities.

Everyone knows they exist, it's not like females are some endangered species in the gaming industry. Even immature boys realize that there are women playing the game too. I would know, my little brother knows about half his guild is female.

So what I'm trying to say is, since it's relatively common knowledge that females make up a large portion of the gaming community, why is it news when a female group is created? And why aren't men's groups ever covered? I'll tell you why. It's because in the past, females have been the "victims," and this is true. I could go into a whole discussion why it was men taking charge and not women, but I'll do that at the end for anyone who wants to read it. So anyway, whenever something that doesn't follow a stereotype pops up, the media covers it. I just dont' understand why there's a stereotype in the first place.

The next couple paragraphs explain why men have been the leaders throughout history for those who are interested.

In the human species, males and females develop differently. We all know this. Males develop an average of about 25% more muscle mass than women. This is a biological fact; men develop more muscle naturally. Thus, in the past, when leadership was based on strength, a male was pretty much guaranteed to be a leader because he was naturally, biologically, stronger than a female. As humans developed, women and men retained their positions on the "leadership ladder." However, new explanations were proposed. From about the 16th to the early 20th century, it was accepted that men were leaders because they always had been. It wasn't until recently that women have stood up for themselves, to the fury of men at the beginning. However, we have since come to realize that the only reason men took charge over women was due to muscle mass, which is completely irrelevant in societal leadership today. It is now generally accepted, therefore, that men and women are more or less equal.

However, certain areas have been reserved for certain genders. For instance, synchronized swimming is seen mainly as a female area, as is cheerleading. Football and construction remain male-dominated. I can see why, as synchronized swimming involves grace and coordination, which is generally attributed to women. Football and construction, on a similar note, are based on strength and physical force, attributed to men.

But video games? Come on! Video games require nothing more than intelligence to play (I use the term "intelligence" loosely), and there are almost NO intellectual differences between men and women. Women are better at multitasking, it's true, but when it comes to straight cognitive ability, males and females are more or less the same. This is why I'm surprised there's even a stereotype of men being the only ones who play video games, due to the fact that the main requirement is shared equally between both genders.

Alright, well now that I've said that, I feel I can say the next sentence without getting flamed for it. Why does the media recognize the achievements or creation of female-based groups and not male-based groups? I see no reason for a male group to not be recognized for the same thing a female group would be recognized for. On a similar note, why are male-only organizations looked upon with contempt? If females can get female-only groups, why can't men get male-only groups? Unfortunately, it seems the trend will continue.

Oh, and about the above paragraph, I do realize that male groups have been recognized for achievements. However, there have been far more female groups being recognized for similar actions, if only because they're female.

To close this ridiculously long post, I'm gonna sum up what I've said.

I see no problem with women playing video games. Why would I? I realize, and am glad that, there is a diverse community playing video games. What ticks me off is when the media chooses only to report on the accomplishments of the groups seen as victims in the past. Men deserve the same treatment as women in these situations. I wholeheartedly congratulate the women's group in the article, but I'm certain there's at least one men's group who has done similar things and has not been recognized for it. All I'm asking is for the media to treat both groups equally, but since when has that happened, and since when will it ever?

Equality in gaming stretches beyond the game boundaries and into the real world. To be totally equal men and women must receive the same punishment for a crime for example.

An example:

Man beats wife gets 5 years
Wife beats husband gets 6 months

Where is the equality in that? same goes for statutory rape (sleeping with a minor) males get a heftier sentence then females...where is the equality?

Until such things are fixed there will be no equality not here not in real life.
